When thinking of a place to travel, you want to go on a trip of the lifetime that will be full of sightseeing, learning history and eating delicious cuisine and Paris, France is the place to go to achieve all that and beyond. There are many well-known tourist spots to visit and take pictures, but there are also places where you can get away from the crowds and just enjoy your time in a new city. The places that you have to visit when in Paris are the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Notre Dame and Arc de Triomphe. You also can’t forget about all the amazing different restaurants to visit in between sightseeing and to end your long day. Don’t forget to pack some comfortable shoes because when visiting Paris, there will be a lot of walking!
When everyone first thinks of Paris, they automatically think of the Eiffel Tower, it is one of the most famous landmarks to visit. From taking a tour to the top and looking down to all the tiny people walking around to seeing the light show at night, there is a ton of things to do. You can either be the person that takes the elevator up or you can walk up all 1,710 steps! When you get all the way to the top at about 984 feet up, you will be able to see all of Paris and beyond, the view is absolutely breathtaking. There is even a restaurant at the top if you want to take a break to eat a delicious 3 course meal. If you were to make reservations for the restaurant, it would include a nice river cruise of Paris at night! Just imagine floating on the river being able to watch the light show at every hour for 5 minutes. You won’t want to miss out on the incredible opportunity!
The next must-see spot is the Louvre. It is the world’s largest museum holding some of the most famous pieces of art, such as Mona Lisa, Winged Victory of Samothrace, Michelangelo’s Dying Slave and many more. The Louvre holds more than 380,000 objects so it could take you quite some time to see even a portion of them. It is said that if you spend 60 seconds at each piece, it would take you 75 days if you spent 8 hours each day looking at them. When visiting it, make sure to pack some snacks, water and a camera because you are able to take pictures inside and you want to have them to look back on!
Notre Dame is a medieval Catholic cathedral and was built in 1163 and wasn’t finished until 1345. It is thought to be one of the best examples of French Gothic architecture. Everyone has heard in the news about the fire that happened in April of 2019, it was very devastating for many and caused damage to the beautiful structure. It occurred during a renovation when the roof caught on fire and burned for about 15 hours. Sadly, it is temporarily closed due to the fire but people are still able to see it from the outside. I would definitely check into whether or not it is open when you go, the stained glass and architecture inside is breathtaking and worth seeing in person. But either way, make sure you stop there on your trip to see the architecture!
Another well-known place to visit in Paris is the Arc de Triomphe. It is a monument for all those who fought and lost their lives for France in the French Revolutionary War. Underneath it, holds the tomb of the Unknown Soldier from WWI. It stands 164 feet tall and is surrounded by 12 avenues which makes it a very chaotic roundabout with cars trying to enter and exit it. Many people try to avoid that area because of how busy it is and I would definitely avoid that if I was driving in Paris. It was built between 1806-1836 and holds a lot of history along with the beauty of the structure. I would highly recommend going inside and walking around but if you feel like getting some exercise in, you can pay a fee to go up 284 steps to the top! It is not the same kind of view at the top of the Eiffel Tower, but it is worth seeing from a different side of the city.
One last thing that you can’t forget about when visiting Paris is the delicious cuisine. Whether you want a quick snack while walking the streets or want to sit down for a 4-course meal, there are many different options to choose from. You could either plan out where you want to go beforehand or just walk the streets and pick a place in the moment. Some of the best places to eat for the true French cuisine are II Etait Un Square, Epicure, Source Infinie, Boutary, Le Gabriel and many more. If you are feeling as if you want some good Italian food, there are many places to go for that as well. I highly recommend getting gelato and crepes at some point of your trip, they could be a treat and you would not be disappointed. My best tip would be to find a local and ask them where all the hidden gems are at because you want to get the full French experience.
I believe that Paris, France should be the next place you visit because the city is full of beauty and history and it worth seeing in person! Whether you want a relaxing day walking through the city or a full agenda of visiting all the main tourists spots, you will never run out of things to do there. If you are travelling with a significant other, don’t forget to pack a lock to write your initials on and put it on the bridge! Visiting Paris will bring you a lifetime of memory and great pictures to look back on and you will not regret going so book your trip now!
